Attended MMI and absolutely loved it here! Great teachers and faculty who make sure you succeed. This place is like family and you truly make long lasting friends.
I graduated MMI as class of '83. It was the best and most profound learning experience of my life. I learned and developed more at Marion than I ever did earlier in high school, or subsequently at the 4-year college where I finished my Bachelor's Degree. If I had a child of my own, I would not hesitate to send them to MMI and I would highly recommend Marion to any person, or parent with a child, contemplating a military career; MMI is one of the best places in the world to go. And I do mean the world, since there were many foreign students who were commissioned into their country's militaries right after graduation. That being said, there were only two types of negative experiences I had - way back in my day. First, were the second-rate football players, who failed to make a University of Alabama team and went to MMI to develop themselves in hopes they would eventually be picked up by some Alabama college. These Neanderthals did not care for anything besides football. The second, when we had a high school program, were the juvenile delinquents sent to us by their parents to straighten them out so they would not have to deal with their problem kids. These kids needed a daily butt whipping from their daddy and/or a stint in juvenile hall, not military school.
My child went to school here. It was the most awful experience. I learned that there is a ton of alcohol and drug use. They lie about their programs. They are very misleading and completely misrepresent the school. If you want two years of depression for your child this is the place. The leadership is a joke. Just say no!
My son went to MMI after high school through the Service Academy Program (SAP). He was Accepted to West Point after his first year and was VERY well prepared for his Plebe year. It was the best decision we could have made to prepare for a military academy!
While the teachers and advisors and most of the staff were really helpful and kind, the student body as a whole was awful. Along with hazing, no respect for recruits who just got there, and the cadre cursing and swearing all over the place; this place may have a reputation for being a "good" military college but it is tarnished every day by its own members. I rate one star only only for the faculty and staff who were so kind and helpful to me in the long run and will not be attending or recommending this college to anyone again.
