We have had 4 children through St. Mary's Catholic School and couldn't be more pleased. The school offers fantastic academics, competitive sports, and a Christian environment. The staff and families are an extended part of our family. Our children are taught not just knowledge and academic skills, they are taught how they have a role in the universe to use their God given gifts to make a difference.
This School is far more advanced academically than any of the public schools in this area. My children have been at this school since they were 3 years old, so I can rate the Early Childhood program as well as the elementary with experience and full knowledge of the programs that are in place. My children range from GT to average and their academic needs have been met and exceeded, they continue to thrive in their school career. The program is challenging, and as a very involved parent, I appreciate the faculty pushing my child to do their best. We have not experienced "teaching the TEST", as some of my public school parent friends complain about, the curriculum here is thorough. The homework load is moderate and requires parent involvement and communication, which I love so I can be in tune with what my child needs and what the needs are in the classroom.
However, what is most impressive about this school is that they teach the children about Jesus and lead by example how to be a Saint. My children are taught Christian character, integrity, and service, as well as other Christian qualities. Their Faith is strengthened everyday. While academics is very important to the faculty here the most important thing, without a doubt, is the children's character. We know that our children are well taken care of and will grow up to be Saints!
As you can tell we love this school and highly recommend it, it truly is a family environment and all of our needs are met.
St. Mary's has 100% acceptance of high school seniors to college! 80% of the student body is a member of the National Honor Society! High School teachers hold masters degrees in their field of study in addition to education. Students can earn over 30 hours of college credit from Letourneau University and Kilgore College while dually enrolled at SMS. This is an awesome place to learn and grow!
St. Mary's has been like a second family to us. The teachers go the extra mile to make sure the students understand the curriculum. My children are reading way above their grade.
