Stayed at the New Taronga Retreat in the Zoo.
The family had a really great time. It was their second day open and we can recommend it to anyone wanting a unique experience. The treetop rooms are fantastic. The restaurant is to be complimented on providing five star quality meals, with impeccable service. The tours are really informative and the staff are totally committed to their work and it shows in how they deliver the information. We are already planning our return.
A magical place! We mostly wanted to see the native Australian animals - this delivered, and more!
It's a very expansive zoo, spreading several levels and over a wide area. We were there for about 4hrs and covered maybe half. We did manage to see the Australian animals: koalas, kangaroos, birds, the platypus, etc., as well as others like elephants, red pandas, gorillas. Definitely recommend that you go during one of the feeding/keeper talks since they are very educational.
Entrance fee is a little steep (A$50) but worth it. Lots of birds just flying around, some of the animals as well. Very little fences for the non-dangerous animals, really, which makes the experience somewhat better - you can't really touch the animals but it feels open.
We got here via the ferry from Circular Quay. Buy your ticket before getting on the ferry. That ticket will allow you to take the cable car up the hill. Otherwise, you'll have to walk to the main entrance.
Also, amazing views towards downtown, the Opera House, and the Harbor Bridge. Lives up to the name ????
Always my favourite place to visit in Sydney for a day out! Taronga have an amazing, ethical breeding program, treat their animals with love and respect - they educate and raise awareness about conservation and environmental responsibility in everything they do at the Zoo. They are non for profit, so any money spent in the zoo goes towards the good work they are doing.
I highly recommend the Seal Show and the Bird Show ???? So amazing.
Excellent ferry ride and especially the cable car ride! The views were breathtaking! The zoo was AMAZING! Best zoo experience ever! Animals were active. A bit of walking but maps & info boards were well done. Great day!
Probably one of the best Zoo's around if not the best. Went to see the bird show and it was absolutely amazing, not sure if it's still on. The animals are well treated, they are obviously working on making the enclosures better and bigger.
I had a fantastic time here and only recommend it as a great family experience. Just don't bring people with precondition grumpy-Ness.
