Description

In 1964 John Landi wanted something to make passing traffic stop at his road side banana stall. He had heard of a "Big Pineapple" in Hawaii and thought that something big would definitely stop traffic. With assistance of 1200 pounds and local engineer, Alan Chapman, who set about designing the giant banana by cutting the best looking banana he could find into 40 pieces and developing plans from which builders could work from, the Big Banana could become a reality. Builder Alan Harvey started the construction in September 1964 with the work to be completed before Christmas. The biggest banana in the world was officially opened on December 22 that year. Not long after, John Enevoldson joined as a partner and they expanded with 20 more plantation acres, a shop, cafe and a larger car park. In 1968 John Landi retired and sold his share to John Enevoldson who continued building the business until 1988 when it was sold to Horticulture World, which was part owned by local businessman Bob Johnston. Bob continued expanding the Big Banana into an educational showcase before undergoing a $30 million redevelopment that re opened in June 1989. The Big Banana now boasts The Banana Slip Water Park (Australia's first 3 story high inflatable waterslide – the biggest in the world), Area 351 Laser Tag Arena, Ice Skating Rink, Wild Toboggan Ride, “The World of Bananas" multimedia theatre experience, plantation and packing shed tour, Going Bananas Cafe, Gift and Souvenir shop, Candy Kitchen, in December 2014, a 36 hole Mini Golf Course! The Big Banana, "It's a Whole Bunch of Fun!"

The big banana is smaller than I expected.. There are not many things to do for adults but might be good with kids. I bought a banana bunch and banana shake to enjoy banana park feelings. If you pass by this place maybe it’s worth for a quick photo shooting. Once is enough for me.

We've been visiting Bananas for the last few years with our young kids. It's clean and well laid out, with a lot of attractions, and something for everyone. Today was an exceptional visit though, thanks to Dilan. Sometimes I wonder know how our youth get such a bad rap. He absolutely rescued our afternoon when my 7-year old lost his game card 10 minutes into playing in the arcade. With a smile on his face, Dilan resolved it all, and then some. His generosity and kindness was memorable. To win the affection of a child is a true mark of success. Bananas, you have our customer loyalty! For a handful of good reasons, but today with Dilan will likely remain our number one. Thank you.

We went to check out The Big Banana in Coffs Harbour and was amazed by all of the fantastic family and tourist interest the fun park has. A spot of gift shopping for banana memorabilia was had at the gift shop where the staff was super friendly and engaging. Most surprising, I left with a tourist Tee. And we had a dessert treat at the Going Bananas Cafe where I had a double scoop salted caramel and Barney banana ice cream and others had a banana fritter and shakes. The food was amazing and our experience was wonderful despite not trying any of the thrill seeking events. Highly recommended!

This is an awesome place! The slides are a lot of fun the kids absolutely loved it. And I liked how they let you in for free if you're just watching the kids. Great cafe with good coffee. The chicken and pesto wrap was very nice. The staff were pleasant. I would go again.

Had a great day out at the Big Banana. Lots of fun activities both indoors and outside. Friendly and helpful staff. We loved the toboggan and the big indoor slide. Would recommend using Groupon for unlimited access as the individually priced rides soon add up. Would definitely go back again. We spent the day there but didn't go in the water park due to the weather.
