DONNA. VERY NICE AND HELPFUL
Awesome place to advertise. Love the heart they have for our city.
The Daily News is a Galveston jewel and a Galveston pride. Its history is closely associated with the rich history of the City of Galveston itself. The paper was first published April 11, 1842, making it the oldest newspaper in Texas. It currently serves as the newspaper of record for the City of Galveston as well as Galveston County.
During the Civil War, the Daily News was briefly published from outside of Galveston because Galveston was occupied by Union forces, but by 1866, it had returned to the Island city.
Alfred Horatio Belo, joined the staff in 1865 and purchased the paper in 1875. By 1923, William Lewis Moody, Jr., a prominent banker and insurance man purchased the paper from Belo. In 1963 the Moody Foundation sold the the paper to William P. Hobby, and in June 1967 Galveston Newspapers Inc., purchased the Daily News.
The paper has won first place awards from the Associated Press and the Texas Press Association in editorial writing, headline writing and general excellence, as well as breaking news articles. The Daily News is indispensable for any engaged resident of the County of Galveston.
Awesome experience to watch the press' run. Thanksgiving eve is one of the few days that they run the press during the day. Thanks for a great experience.
Historical building with a very warm and knowledgeable staff. They're very helpful with the latest technology in design and printing. Glad to know we have such a great newspaper on the Island thats current with the news, events and classified sections!!
