Our atmosphere is always welcoming and laid back whilst our aesthetic is un-apologetically geek chic (our feature wall is made up of 500 real VHS cassette cases). A good selection of classic arcade games, heaps of board games available to play. Range of craft beers, either on tap or cans/bottles, a few choice cocktails in the menu and a few options for jaffles/toasties if you're peckish. Some fantastic circa late 80's early 90's movie posters, other cool decorations make 1989 a great bar for gamers, geeks and their friends to share some fun activities while socialising.
I took my kids here today and they had hours of fun. A very friendly, welcoming atmosphere. The young bartender was very approachable, attentive and great with the kids. We will be definitely be back.
Really nice place! We had fun and the service is good! Recommend couples and friends to go. Will go there again.
Love the idea of arcade bars but this one is just a bit off. Staff are super friendly but the place is far too small and feels a bit dirty. Games require coins so remember to bring gold coins with you, bar staff can exchange card payment for coins but it's limited to what they have in the till. Putting aside the games the bar itself is actually pretty good. Drink options are good with a rotation of boutique beers and cider. Overall a good casual bar, that gets pretty crowded but do not go for the arcade.
Why did I wait so long to visit?! Had an incredible night! Great cocktails, great service, great selection of games, great venue! Ben was super nice, and if you forget coins like we did you can purchase some very easily to play the games. 5 stars, will be back and hopefully will be our new local!
