Being not very fond of heights, but doing the touristy thing in North Queensland, I took the plunge and booked a HotAir Balloon ride for me and my wife. Once the balloon lifted off the ground, the smooth assent into the crisp morning air, made my fears disappear. The gentle movement of the balloon in the air currents gave us plenty of time to see the sunrise over the distant mountains and take in the morning views of Mareeba and district, without any sudden movements to reignite my fears. The pilot was very professional and support team great. Even a slightly rough landing with the basket stopping on its side, was pre-warned and well controlled, so as to feel as though it was meant to be part of the experience. Great experience team!

he first thing I'd like to point out is value for money, $41 and you get an entire day of awesome fun and education. I highly recommend going here, it brought out the child in all of us. There is plenty to do and it is by no means all about crocodiles, as the site has a whole bunch of other species to look at and learn about. There is an actual crocodile farm there which will probably upset some people, fair enough, but I have to applaud the way the staff went about addressing it. They will let you know that the tour of the farm is not for everybody and recommend that you don't attend if you feel as though it's not for you. Don't worry though, there's plenty of other things to see and do. If you do go, however, you will learn why these animals are farmed and how important crocodile farming is to the continued protection and survival of the species. Non-crocodile related things to do include a reptile exhibit, holding and getting photos with a koala and going into an enclosure with kangaroos and wallabies that are more than happy enough to be petted (if you have food). Things that stuck out for me we're definitely the crocodile attack show, which was incredible, as well as the snake show that's run by a guy named Matt, I think. The food from the cafe was also awesome and not too expensive. It's very comfortable and completely shaded. I'd recommend Hartley's to anyone, it's a great day our and isn't expensive.

It is an awesome crocodile farm that is full of thrilling experiences and adventures with crocodiles, snakes and other lovely creatures. An amazing and incredible experience. The facility is very well-maintained and looked after. The guides are highly experienced and professional. It is a full day activity for the kids and family that provides lot of information about these lovely wild creatures. It is not that costly and is worth every penny spend. It is a must for the tourists to this region. The farm is very well connected by public transport from Cairns and easy to reach by car.

Brilliant Crocodile park. You can see so many different animals, the ticket price is great value. Lots of photo ops. Good food also available. The tour of the lagoon is entertaining and educational and our tour guide was very funny. Great fun atmosphere, great service, and great day out with or without kids.

$53 for a powered site which was a bit on the pricey for 1 night. The water park was running when we pulled in at 1pm but approx 40 mins later when hubby took out son to the water park it was turned off and no one to be found to ask why?? The kids play ground was not undercover or have a shade sail so was too hot to play on. Very disappointed.. Glad we have air conditioning in the caravan. Could have done this somewhere cheaper and stayed longer. Wont stay here again.

The staff and accomodations at BIG4 Port Douglas are top notch! We stayed at this campground in March. We arrived after hours and someone was nice enough to meet us and sign us in. We were traveling during the off season so we did not need a reservation to book. The powered site was great. We were close to the restrooms and the other facilities were all well maintained. The pool was very relaxing and the grounds even offered laundry services and outdoor kitchen amenities. What really set this place apart was the customer service. After my husband and I checked out we ended up getting our Land Cruiser stuck in the mud a few streets away from the camp grounds. We called over 10 tow truck companies, all of whom said they couldn't help. I called BIG4 to see if they had anyone they would recommend and they sent their own staff over to help us. It was such a nice gesture and a blessing to us. We spent two hours trying to dig ourselves out and when the staff arrived we were out in less than five minutes. I highly recommend this establishment if you are looking for an affordable, family friendly stay!
